Nuclear Fuel Cycle of Temelin NPP
Ježek, Martin ; Zlámal, Ondřej (referee) ; Katovský, Karel (advisor)
This bachelor's thesis deals with the central part of a fuel cycle in the power plant of Temelín. It describes generally the whole fuel cycle, from the process of uranium mining up to permanent storage of burned-up material and it shortly mentiones possibilities of its remaking. Neverthless, the main point is the middle part of the fuel cycle. In the next parts, the thesis concentrates on the power plant of Temelín. It describes shortly the WER-1000 reactor, which is being used there, and the active zone as well. There is a further description of both fuels used there, a fuel form a Russian corporation of TVEL, which is used nowadays, as well as a fuel from an American corporation of Westinghouse used in the past. The thesis then deals with the development of a fuel cycle from the moment of launching the power plant up to the present. The problems with the fuel from the American corporation are mentioned here as well. Then it concentrates on more-than-year long cycles and tries to quantify their contribution. The thesis contains a very simple project of an elongated fuel cycle and his evaluation from the point of working economy and organisation of shutdowns.

Analysis of the Most Common Causes of Nuclear Fuel Failures During Operation
Ježek, Martin ; ČEZ,, Ondřej Zlámal, (referee) ; Katovský, Karel (advisor)
Nuclear fuel failures during the reactor operation happen quite often in the world. The theoretical part of this thesis is dedicated to the most common causes of nuclear fuel failures. It describes failure mechanism and corrective actions. The unfavorable trends in nuclear fuel behavior are prevented by suitable method of nuclear fuel monitoring. Some of them may affect the safety of the power plant. For example, the fuel assembly bow affects the function of rod cluster control assembly. Another part, which describes inspection methods, is devoted to inspection and repair of nuclear fuel. The thesis concentrates on the Temelin NPP, where there was implemented post-irradiation inspection program for checking compatibility between Westinghouse's fuel assemblies and water chemistry of reactor VVER. This program continues even after the change of nuclear fuel supplier. Practical part of this thesis is dedicated to proposal of a new method of fuel assembly bow measurement for Temelin NPP based on ultrasound. This proposal is supported by measurement on the experimental device for detection of spacer grid position developed by Research Centre Rez.
Nuclear Fuel for Pressurized Water Reactors

This bachelor thesis deals with structural characteristics of nuclear fuels, where most of the attention is paid to pressurized water reactors. The examples of the nuclear fuels implementation for each reactor type are mentioned for reader's better understanding. A brief history of pressurized water reactors is also listed, VVER reactors particularly. The nuclear fuel development for pressurized water reactors is demonstrated on the example of the development of fuel for our nuclear power plants Dukovany and Temelin, changes of fuel structure are emphasized. In the thesis there is also carried out a computational comparison of several selected parameters of used nuclear fuel during the operation of the nuclear power plant Dukovany.
Nuclear power plant accidents and their impacts
BOROVKA, Petr
This bachelor thesis deals with the issue of nuclear power plant accidents. First the basic terms for nuclear energy are explained. Then the reactor and the types of reactors used are described. Furthermore safety systems for nuclear energy are analyzed and examples of systems used are given. The Temelín nuclear power plant is described, because of comparison that comes afterwards. After that the topic moves on to the description of three serious accidents of nuclear plants. Specifically accidents at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, the Fukushima nuclear power plant and the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant. Furthermore in the following chapters a comparison was made of the individual described accidents with the Temelín nuclear power plant. For the Chernobyl accident the comparison consists of comparing the biological shield with containment, xenon poi-soning and positive cavity coefficient, control rods, backup types of power supply, and finally the explosion during the accident is analyzed. For comparison with the Fukushi-ma accident, the risk of natural disasters in the area where the Temelín nuclear power plant is located is pointed out also an analysis of rivers near the nuclear power plant was made. With the Fukushima accident, the differences in containment structures and the risks associated with the accident are described. Furthermore, the accident of Three Mile Island was compared with the accident at the Rovno nuclear power plant, as it was the same type of accident with different results. Then a comparison was made in measuring the water level in the reactor and the procedure for measuring the water level for the VVER-1000/V320 type reactor was described.

Haratíková, Alexandra ; Vávra, Martin (advisor) ; Šťovíčková Jantulová, Magdaléna (referee)
The diploma thesis analyzes the way in which ecological activism and eco-terrorism were described in 1997 and 2019 in the Lidové noviny and Právo dailies and tries to find the most significant similarities and differences between the two media discourses. The analysis is carried out with the use of Norman Fairclough's critical discursive analysis. The work is divided into a theoretical and an empirical part, where the former pays attention to the definition and beginnings of environmental activism and eco-terrorism and the most significant manifestations of ecological activism in the studied years - the completion of the Temelín nuclear power plant for 1997, and Greta Thunberg for 2019. The research part analyzes the discourse of ecological activism and eco-terrorism in the studied years, and compares them. The aim of the work is to capture the essence of these two discourses, their actors, main topics and arguments. The conclusion of the empirical part consists of comparisons between the two discourses and a discussion of their differences and similarities. Keywords Norman Fairclough, critical discourse analysis, ecological activism, eco-terrorism, media discourse, Temelin, Greta Thunberg
